Being a teacher taught me
maturity, leadership,
and responsibility.
T eaching religious education has made me realize that while teaching
the students enrolled in the program, the teachers have not only taught the
students but also have grown with them. I began teaching 2 years ago and
started as a 6th grade teacher. This year, I was privileged to teach my
returning students along with new students as I taught 7th grade. I feel that
the students have matured spiritually and faithfully by the end of the year
on that warm Sunday in May as they all passed the 7th grade.
I remember the first chilly day in our classroom in September and
remember the young faces of these growing members of our community
sitting in their desks so quietly. The quietness did not remain too long.
Since then, each day was a new adventure. Not only did my students under-
stand their faith better as they asked questions with the visible doubt in
Jasmine Puthenpurayil their eyes but they also learned they are all children of God and members
of the Knanaya Community.

I believe that the Religious education program is an opportunity for
